Will a background in tennis help me in golf?

I’ve been playing tennis for 5 years, and I know that strokes are extreamly important. I”m planning on starting golf soon, and I know that the stroke is important as well. Will my tennis background ease difficulty in me learning golf?

I’d say the athleticism may help but little else will transfer from Tennis to golf.

Not really. The eye to hand coordination helps but that is about it.

It’s been my experience most of the best golfers have some background in other sports as well. Athleticism does help. Having said that, it’s certainly not a guarantee that you’ll be good at golf.

Having good tempo and timing is something you need for both golf and tennis, so that helps.

I gave a lesson to a tennis pro once, and I played tennis growing up, before I became a golf pro. His problem was a severe hook, which is rare for a beginning golfer, I related to him how his shot needed more slice spin (in tennis the drop shot) instead of top spin (forehand)

Maybe a little with the hand-eye-coordination and at least you’ll understand what it is to "release" the club.
So yeah it might help a little.

It definitely helps. As tennisser you have the eye-hand coordination and an understanding of how to impart ball-spin. Furthermore you are used to having to control a ball indirectly with some sort of device in your hand :-)
In my experience I see that tennis-, field hockey- and baseball-players learn the fundamentals of golf much faster.
