  1. Yeah I used to be bad at fly too.
Here are a few quick tips:
    1. As the other person said, 2 Kicks. One when your arms are entering the water, and one when your arms are exiting.
    2. Undulate your body! If you’ve ever done a dolphin kick before, you probably know what I’m talking about. If not, ask; its very basic and easy to do.
    3. Keep your elbows locked when your arms are moving above the water, but keep your hands very loose (so your arm is straight, but your hand is pointing down b/c of gravity).
    4. Work on abdominal strength for that undulation I was talking about.

  2. some people really just cant do fly.
dont come up with your arms and legs at the same time. it has to be rythmic. also dont do a million little butterfly kicks. just do two big ones

  3. With technique you just need to practice on your own time too, not just when you team has practice. With performance, try to get to the point where you only have to breathe on your turn so that when your swimming your concentrated on your stroke quality only.

  4. Fly is really simple if you take away the stigma about it being so difficult. First, when you push off the wall, stay under for as long as possible and use your momentum and kicking to bring you out away from the wall and out of the water. relax your upper back and remember the motion of a dolphin: it looks effortless right? just flow with the water. Alot of times in practice I see these girls fighting the water like mad beasts. RELAX. go with the water, try and get your arms above the surface early do that you have a full reach. Glide into each wall (don’t take half strokes, that slows you down, trust me) and have a quick touch. Don’t grab the edge like it’s a life raft. the biggest thing I would have to say though is keep the kick clean. The more together your legs are (and in rhythm with your arms) the farther you will go with less effort giving you more energy at the end. My mantra I always used was arms then legs, arms then legs so you always have something moving you forward. Hope this helps and good luck!!

  5. -When your arms come out of the water try not to touch your fingers when they enter again but rather keep them shoulder width apart.
-Try to really whip that dolphin kick twice not just the one time.
-Press your chest after your fingers reenter the water and try to glide for a little just like you do in breast stroke.
-You could also try watching a video on YouTube of a good swimmer and try to get ideas from that.

Good luck and I hope i helped!

  6. It may sound weirdo but when you do your fly kicks make sure you get your but out of the water, it really makes your fly kicks have a greater effect, and that should help your fly stroke :D

    Good luck on the team.
