Ill let my 4th grader try to explain particle physics to me before I listen to a chiropractor pretend to have any expertise in immunology… the near elemination of most childhood diseases that were once routine (and often deadly) did not come at the hands of chiropractic.
As for drugs, why is it that every year the chiropractors are begging the state legislature for the right to prescribe then?
You people are about as close to real doctors as faith healers and reflexologists.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
I think you guys think chiros adjust kids the same as adults - not even close.. And theres that double standard again.. do you think drugs and vaccines are “forced” on kids today? Im sure thats fine right? whats worse is they are “FORCED” on them before their immune system has a chance to develop on its own? as far as proof- there’s tons of evidence that shows the benifits of chiropractic but you guys dont want to do anything but argue against it, so screw proof lets get back to name calling..
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
I hate to hear that chiropractors have no problem manipulating the not yet fully formed bones of infants/toddler/preschoolers, ect.
Someone would have to boarder on deluisional to believe that such a practice is justifiable in the name of “healthcare”.
Like this cowy1 says, this subluxation thing is pseudoscience garbage and no kind of excuse for “baby twisting”. If you have to peddle that kind of crap save it for adults who can choose it for themselves, dont force it on kids, thats just sick.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
Bring some evidence to prove us wrong then; chiropractic, as practiced by the majority of chiropractors, is little more than highly stylized massage. The subluxation theory is especially ridiculous, having been debunked decades ago yet most chiros talk about it as if it is real.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
ridiculous in total? highly stylized?
wtf are you even talking about??? u been sniffin glue and leaving comments on youtube again????
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
I hate to hear you guys have problems with chiropractic and chiropractors.. I adjust kids all the time.. They get great results, they enjoy the adjustment, and there’s NO side effects..
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
The problem as I see it here is that the claims/actions of “Doctor” Ptak in this episode of BULLSHIT are fairly representative of those made by many if not most chiropractors. They routinely “adjust” young children and see nothing wrong with it, the show just called them out on it and that has chiropractors angry because they know they really cant defend the practice to the mainstream.
Its not “ignorance” to call such “doctors” what they really are…
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
Go to three different chiropractors get three different diagnoses. They make you feel better because they lay hands on and make you think you feel better, placebo effect.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
“We are an easy target” because chiropractic is ridiculous in total and little more than highly stylized massage.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
I’d say you don’t know anything about the entirely inadequate training that chiropractors undergo; not a single one of them is qualified to do much of anything except call 911 in an emergency.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
There are good one’s and bad one’s in every profession and for anyone to not understand that is simply ignorant. Furthermore, to view one poor example and make a blanket statement regarding the whole profession is simply assenine. Has this gut suddenly emerged from spending his entire life under a rock? This stupidity honestly deserves no attention for it is simply based on ignorance.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
The episode being discussed her discussed reflexology, magnetic healers and chiropractic. Penn & Teller state up front that chiropractic has some benefit for back and neck pain, and they have two that take very different views on its role and application. About as balanced as a show called BULLSHIT is going to get.
Check it out for yourself by googling “penn and teller alternative medicine”.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
I have not see this segment on SHOWTIME. Does he paint all chiropractors with the same broad brush or does he target a single practitioner? Does he make a distinction between the babytwister and other Chiropractors? Or are all chiropractors Full of IT in his esteem?
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
Im fine with freedom of speech. My problem is the double standard that you and others like you have. U think its fine to down chiropractic with crazy stories about kids being “twisted” but you’ll bust out the calculator to defend medicine. U talk about chiropractic as if you understand it. Do you REALLY believe mothers are letting chiros “twist” or hurt their kids? gotta call bullshit on this bullshit.. u have waisted enuff of my time.. we probably wont ever agree so lets agree to disagree..
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
I get it… someone calls you out on your (typical) chiropractic medical boogy man claims so you call them an idiot, then assert that you dont have to be anything like correct/accurate/truthful because you dont agree with someone else that called out another chiropractor (who really was a baby twisting motherfucker)… classic… right out of the chiropractors play book.
This video is more about freedom of speech, whats untrue or inaccuate about that? Not a big believer in that?
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
WOW.. You’re great with math.. Now go look in the mirror and count the idiots.. should be atleast 1.. When your done, think about this.. since when do you have to make accurate and true statements?? This video certainly isn’t representing neither truth or accuracy ..
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
WOW… Mr. Jillette’s video went on for about 6 and a half minutes so by your numbers that would mean around 2900 people die every hour/almost 70,000 a day/over 2 million a month/nearly 25 million a year!
At that rate medicine would kill off the entire US population in about a dozen year… that is unless you statment is just a bunch of chiropractice BULLSHIT!
Care to try and defend your statement, or is rational though not you strong suit?
Maybe you could learn something from Teller yourself
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
Anyone who saw the episode of “Bullshit” that showed the “baby twisting MF” in question would have to agree that he was a first rate nut job that was making absurd claims about the ability of chiropractic to cure just about anything. The idiot was shown manipulating/”cracking” a toddlers neck. I dont care how you want to sugar coat it, that is seriously wrong and deserves to be called what it/he (the chiropractor) was.
P.S. Get your facts right, its a show on Showtime, not HBO.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
Penn is an entertainer, he loves to offend to get attention. He loves the attention good or bad but he always appeals to the majority (in this case chiroskeptical) opinion. People laugh when he says offensive things We are an easy target he is simply exploiting that fact. Even though his opinions are as valid as the title of his HBO show. If he didn’t take such strong positions he wouldn’t be entertaining to anyone its a cheap device that is completely devoid of objectivity or truth.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
While you were just talking 300 people died from adverse drug reactions, and medical mistakes… That reminds me, Penn please go refill your script .. In the meantime, act more like Teller, he has never said anything stupid, that I can recall..
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
Medical docs treat their own families all the time. There is nothing in the books to prevent them from treating their family members. As a Doctor of Chiropractic I treat my own family, because they prefer me to treat them.
As for the video, I applaude Penn using our right of free speech. He should be able to speak his mind, although it doesnt mean he is always correct. In the same vein, it is also legal and allowable to sue a person for their speech. Doesnt mean they are correct either!
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
I want proof Penn. If you say the video’s of those Chiropractors adjusting baby’s is so horrible why aren’t they in Jail or license taken away for malpractice. As the husband of a Chiropractor I have watched my wife Adjust our child and many others with no “Twisting” of any sort. If these events are true then lets see them. I call you and your opinions on Chiropractic Bull Shit. Prove Me Wrong…or shut the Hell up.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
I assumed you were referring to the “accuracy” of the Television show. I apologize for my ignorance on the name of the text book.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
Do you even know what I am talking about. Gray’s Anatomy is Text book used by MD’s and Chiropractors. It is considered the most comprehensive anatomy text. Don’t talk about things you don’t know.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:30 am
Otherwise that sounds more like an arbitrary mandate from the AMA more so than some ’standard’.
If medical intervention were actually compatable with normal human physiology maybe it would be different.
